Chester Information Centre
Yorkshire Signs were appointed by Freemont Construction of Manchester, to supply & install new internal and external signage at Chester Town Hall.
The work consisted of wall-mounted information signs, made up of individual letters manufactured from 50mm painted MDF letters, applied directly to the stud-walling.
There were also some digitally-printed Friezes depicting local attractions and history of the area, which were applied to internal walls..
The major headache was to manufacture a curved-top internally illuminated sign box, that had to mimic the precise contours of the stone archway, whilst being fitted above the new automatic doors. Absolutely no margin for error with this part of the project, particularly as we had a tight timeframe to work within.
We initially surveyed the site, and made a plywood template, from which to manufacture the signcase.
As this was a listed building, the architect had requested a glazed effect, for the face of the external sign. This was achieved by applying etched effect vinyl, with stencilled text, to the face of a 6mm impact-resistant polycarbonate panel, and then applying black vinyl with the stencilled text to the rear of the panel.
The sign panel (which was almost 3 mtrs in length, and extremely heavy) was then housed into a black painted 3mm aluminium sign case, and illuminated with LEDs.
The overall effect is quite striking, with the main fascia sign looking as though it had always been there.
Congratulations to Freemont Construction by the way, who recently were awarded "Northwest Construction Company of the year. Visit www.freemontltd.co.uk
