Darfield Foulstone School of Creative Arts

This was a particularly interesting project, as several members of staff were keen to be involved in the design process.
The initial brief was to create a vibrant image, utilising the dramatic arts "mask" logo, and the school colours of pale blue, dark blue, and white.
We decided to blow up the logo to give an abstract effect with the two shades of blue, whilst highlighting the text in white.
A triangular fascia sign was produced to mimic the main entrance canopy, using blue painted aluminium with applied vinyl graphics, and strengthened with aluminium angle, and t-section profile.
Also to highlight the lower car-park entrance, we produced a painted aluminium panel, that was mounted onto 76mm aluminium posts, and concrete fixed into the ground. There was also a large format digital banner fitted to the sports hall, in order to increase visibility from the main road.
For the internal room signage, the school were keen to introduce an "etched glass" effect. This initally created a problem, due to the internal lighting.
After producing several working samples, we solved the lighting issue by applying the etched vinyl to the face of the panel, with the text stencilled out to reveal the blue vinyl applied to the rear of the panel.
With some of the signs being almost 1200mm in length, we specified a nice chunky 15mm clear acrylic with flame-polished edges. The signs were then fitted to the wall with 25mm satin-aluminium spacers.
All the staff at Darfield were highly delighted with their new image, and I have to say, so were we.......
